About this collection
The United Ancient Nations Documents Collection is the public reference copy of the documentary record held by the Secretariat.
The collection brings together four bodies of material: the treaties and agreements concluded by the United Ancient Nations and its member nations; reports, submissions and independent expert opinions; judicial and administrative records; and the historical archives of the ancient nations. Each record is published on its own page, under its own reference number. A collection with no records in it yet says so, and shows nothing in their place.
A document that exists only as a scanned file is, for practical purposes, unreadable — by search engines, by assistive technology, and by anyone reading on a small screen. Transcription to text is therefore the standard this collection works towards, and a record carries its full text on its own page as soon as one has been made. Until then the entry stands on its reference number, its date, its parties and the document as filed, and the page states which of those it is holding.
A record is registered, digitised, transcribed, described and published, and its page is reissued as each of those is completed rather than held back until all of them are. Transcriptions are published as the document was filed, without editorial correction, so that the text on this site can be compared line for line with the original. Where a transcription was produced by optical character recognition, the record page says so.
Every record carries a reference number assigned by the Secretariat, which stays with the record for the life of the collection:
ORG - RECORD TYPE - SUBCATEGORY - KEYWORD - YYYYMMDD - VERSION
- ORG names the publishing body — UAN.
- RECORD TYPE is the collection: TREATY, REPORT, LEGAL or ARCHIVE.
- SUBCATEGORY names the forum or authority the record belongs to — UNHRC for the Human Rights Council, UNSR for a Special Rapporteur, GUJHC for the High Court of Gujarat.
- KEYWORD distinguishes the record from its siblings in the same series.
- YYYYMMDD is the date of the record. Where the document states only a month or only a year, the unknown part is written as zeros — 20230000 is a record dated 2023 with no month or day stated in the document itself.
- VERSION rises if a record is ever republished.
Each record page carries its reference number and has a permanent address of its own, so a record stays citable and stays findable even where the Secretariat corrects the entry behind it.
A correction may be sent to the Secretariat at [email protected] and will be recorded against the record. Certified copies of any record may be requested from the same address.
Cite a record by its author, title and reference number, followed by the name of this collection. Every record page carries the citation in the form to use, alongside the permanent address of the page itself.
